Description
U.S. Embassy Dhaka is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Economic/ Commercial Specialist.

The incumbent spends 60 percent of time on economic affairs and 40 percent on commercial affairs. Incumbent works under the direction of the Economic/Commercial Officer as well as the Deputy Chief of the Political/Economic Section. S/he gathers information on key economic sectors, drafts reports, arranges calls on officials, screens requests for meetings, and organizes special events. As one of two Locally-Engaged Staff (LES) working in the U.S. Trade Center (USTC), the incumbent supports commercial services, reporting, and program needs in Bangladesh, a Foreign Commercial Service (FCS) Partnership Post. S/he provides commercial services to U.S. firms – including Initial Market Check, Single Company Promotion, International Company Profile, and Gold Key Service in coordination with FCS Kolkata, India. The incumbent maintains USTC databases and organizes meetings and logistical support for visitors. S/he helps prioritize the work assigned to the Trade Center staff and monitors progress toward meeting goals and deadlines set by the Supervisory Economic/Commercial Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in the commerce, trade, economics, business administration or finance is required. (You must attach a copy of your bachelor’s degree certificate along with your application form.)
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research, trade promotion, sales, marketing, finance, business management, or related field.
- Level 4 (Fluent) Bangla and English Speaking/Reading/Writing is required. This may be tested.
- Thorough knowledge of Bangladesh’s economic environment, commercial structure, and business practices, including import-export procedures and investment regulations. Sound knowledge of U.S. trade promotion goals, programs, procedures, reporting requirements, and U.S. business practices and official policies as related to international trade and investment.
