Position: Customs Manager

Reporting: Regional Customs & Excise Director

Location: Tongi

The incumbent leads the Customs function in Bangladesh and is responsible for all Customs-related activities in the country. This role is part of Global Tax and reports to the Regional Customs & Excise director.

The incumbent is responsible:

To implement the Customs strategy, in line with the company’s policies & procedures
To manage the Customs compliance to ensure continuous compliance with local customs regulations.
To manage Customs risks and implement measures to mitigate those. Responsible for the indirect tax manual
To handle Customs audits and be the first point of contact for local customs authorities. The incumbent is the official JTI contact for the local Customs authorities. As such he is accountable and in case of failure, he is potentially liable for any financial damage
To represent JTI for Customs at national authorities and monitor current and impending changes to customs regulations and perform an assessment of the impact on JTI.
To manage the relationship with external tax advisors for compliance and other consulting activities.

What Will You Do:

Overall responsible for the Customs topics in Bangladesh. Coordinating with the Regional Customs & Excise Director, Regional Tax Director but also CFO, Factory lead, Manufacturing Services lead, and other stakeholders
Provide internal Customs advice, responsible for maintaining the Customs & Excise procedures and related compliance. Ensure timely payment of Customs debt. Prepare claims related to import duties. Manage the Customs authorizations, such as AEO, customs warehousing, RTP, etc. Handling customs audits with governmental authorities. Manage and instruct customs broker(s) to conduct clearances correctly.
Proactively following up on local Customs developments that may impact the local business, assisting in broader local business development activities, and provide assistance and support to other departments in relation to local Customs as needed. Seek opportunities to improve current Customs processes and procedures.
Responsible for Customs risk management and reporting. To prepare timely and accurate quarterly and annual provision calculations and reporting packages for headquarters. Responsible for the indirect tax manual. Coordination for setting up the change management meeting and keeping the manual up to date

We Expect from You:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree completion from a reputed University
Minimum 05 years of relevant work experience in MNC or in Big 4 tax advisory firms with in-depth knowledge of local customs regulations and excise legislation
Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal skills
Skilled in financial applications (SAP and MS Excel) is preferable
